Franklin's three weeks old

Three weeks old and we are enjoying Franklin more and more each day. His eyes are opening wider and his gaze is brighter. He is getting more expressive, his little character is starting to develop and he's getting rounder and rounder!

Theo Gems

I hope I never forget the way Theo's eyes sparkle when he's being silly at this age, and the way he says "oppospots" and "swamich" instead of opposites and sandwich. I also particularly enjoy some of the little phrases he uses like "because I like it SO much" and "I don't like that so well." The other day we asked him what he thought Franklin would say when he learns how to talk and he guessed "Hi! I like to play with cars and trucks!" I also must comment on the remarkable aptitude he shows at this age for jigsaw puzzle assembly!

Water fun

Matt's been taking Theo on special outings since Franklin entered our world - one of which was the neighborhood wading pool. After Theo sat on the edge of the pool to think it over, Matt cajoled him into joining him in the pool and Theo finally got over his fear of pools! He's such a water boy, we're happy he can now enjoy real "swimming" in more water than just the bathtub. Here's some images from a recent all-family trip to a city park with a great water feature, and enjoying our little turtle pool in the backyard.

Theo and Franklin

Franklin's a big guy!

Franklin's 2 week appt yielded another surprise; he's growing REALLY FAST! He weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 10 oz. At four days old, he weighed half an ounce under 8lbs, down from his birth weight of 8lbs 8oz. That means in 10 days he gained over a pound and a half! Unlike his brother, who has always been long and lean, I think Franklie's going to be long and a chunker!

One week old!

Little Frankie G. is one week old already! He's already hit some milestones; he lost his umbilical cord on his 5th day, can lift his head briefly, and today found his thumb to suck for the first time! I should note that today he's 8 days old, so sucking his thumb for the first time today seems to fit in with the lucky number 8 theme in this kid's young life. Most importantly, of course, he's eating and pooping like a champ!

Boy are we tired

Franklin sleeps an awful lot, which is helpful, but he's still learning night from day, with a special fondness for the 1am-4am hours for being awake. What a different experience to welcome a newborn into our lives while being parents to a toddler at the same time! Thank goodness there are two of us.
