Spring time in the front yard

Matt has done wonders with the front yard. We all hung out the other evening with Theo playing with chalk and running in circles around the garden bed. I enjoy the great big evergreens across the street. So peaceful.

New haircut

Theo has learned to ham it up for post-haircut photos. I always insist we leave the curls on top!

Nesting mama

Three more months to go! Time to get the new baby's room ready. Theo likes to help get the baby's room all fixed up for his little brother, but this part was just me.

Happy Mother's Day!

We celebrated Mother's Day early because Grammy Betsy was here visiting. Theo has been tapping in to his inner mama - pretending to be pregnant like Mommy by stuffing his blanket under his shirt. He's really into it! Happy mothers day all you Mommies!

When life hands you lemons, make chocolate chip cookies

These were supposed to be pictures of the whole family at the beach for a long weekend. Instead, the whole family is home having a stay-cation, due to a nasty cold that has gotten all three of us. Matt had the brilliant idea of making chocolate chip cookies to cheer us all up, and it certainly did the trick. Theo was a great helper, and very enthusiastic of course.

Imagination explosion

The latest advances in Theo's development into a big kid have come in the wonderful, wide-open world of imagination. Suddenly the world is full of possibilities and nothing is necessarily what it seems. Blocks of different colors become different types of food. The carpet becomes a lake. A computer screen materializes out of the couch cushion. Theo's taking his black truck to the grocery store to buy "foods".
Here's a few shots of he and I out playing more concrete games in the backyard - digging dirt with his tools and throwing rocks and sticks into the stream. There's also been the developing stubborn side, as marked by this stellar shot of the little dude shooting me a wicked scowl.

Big boy bed!

Last weekend, we decided it was time to introduce Theo to a big boy bed. We had inherited this blue race car bed from friends, and we set it up sneakily in his rom while he ate Sunday afternoon. We brought him upstairs, and it was like love at first site. He literally walked around it and ran his hand across it like a guy considering buying a sports car. Blue cars are his favorites, too, and the phrase was repeated over and over again in all the excitement. I did not expect Theo to be ready to give up on his crib, but when posed with the question of where he wanted to sleep that night, it was immediate. Blue car! Much to my surprise, there was no adjustment period. He fell asleep quickly and stayed asleep all night. Nap time the next day, same thing. I guess he was ready. The next day, I asked Theo if he was ready for us to take the crib out of his room, and he said yeah! So Theo got to help me take apart his old crib; doing projects with Mama with tools is one of his favorite things. I asked, since he didn't need his crib anymore, if it was ok if we let the new baby use it, and should we move it into the new baby's room? He was all for it. Thus, step one accomplished of getting Theo's buy in on new stuff for him and giving the old stuff to the baby!
